Wine Spectator on Monteti 2008 and Caburnio 2010

Wine Spectator’s reviews February 2014

Monteti 2008: 93/100

Starts out with some earthy funk in the aroma, leading to flavors of black currant, licorice, tobacco and spice on the palate. Dense, chewy and balanced, with a long aftertaste of black fruit, saline and licorice. Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2015 through 2024

Caburnio 2010: 89/100

An aromatic version, with flavors of flowers, black currant, raspberry and briar backed by burly tannins. On the wild side, showing personality and length. Should pair well with grilled lamb. Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2021.

Diary: 2014 pruning

vendemmia-720x400px-003For the second winter we have applied a new pruning technique. Pruning is among all vine operations perhaps the most decisive for the harvest quality objectives but also the most invasive. This new technique allows us a softer pruning, applying cuts preferably on one maximum two years old shoots. The aim is to better preserve the vine lymphatic system, getting a more nourished cordon, increasing the vegetation homogeneity and the plant longevity. The cuts are also smaller and quicker to cicatrize, the plant is less vulnerable.
